Dette enestående instrumentet, som opprinnelig ble laget som en violone, har vært i bruk siden 1500-tallet, altså minst like lenge som den vestlige klassiske musikken i streng forstand har eksistert, om ikke lenger. Giovanni Bottesini, en fremstående italiensk bassist og komponist på 1800-tallet, setter dette instrumentet særlig høyt. På 1900-tallet blir det spilt av jazzmusikeren Jack Fallon, som deltar i flere i plateinnspillinger med The Beatles i 1968. Les mer.
Originally made as a violone, this exceptional instrument has been in use since the 16th century, spanning the history of formal Western classical music and beyond. This instrument is admired by the great 19th century Italian bassist and composer Giovanni Bottesini. In the 20th century it is played by jazz musician Jack Fallon, who features in recording sessions with the Beatles in 1968. Read more.
